Trainee Manager

If you have the right commitment, determination and energy, then our range of accredited management training programs will see you well on your way to achieving your goals.

At each stage of your career, your training will be a mix of theory and practical skills and adds up to more responsibility and more variety. Below is an outline of what you can expect at each stage of management and how the training you receive is externally accredited.

Trainee Manager

Each person's suitability to be considered for a Trainee Manager's position will be assessed on their ability to supervise people, product and equipment to deliver outstanding Quality, Service, Cleanliness & Value (QSC&V) on assigned shifts and their motivational desire to perform. You should demonstrate and reinforce the leadership behaviours and basic people skills necessary to gain commitment from Crew and other shift managers. You will develop a thorough understanding of McDonald's people policies and security and safety procedures and will have completed the first level of the McDonald's Management Development Program (MDP) culminating in you attending the first Management course at Head Office.

Completion of the first stage of the MDP program, the associated courses and the required restaurant experience makes you eligible to apply for a Certificate III in Retail.

Second Assistant

Upon successful completion of level one of the McDonald's MDP and having demonstrated the ability to maintain a consistently high level of QSC, you will be promoted to Second Assistant. This provides the platform to take on secondary responsibilities such as crew training, workplace safety, and ordering of stock. As a Manager you will also contribute to the retention of crew who are enthusiastically dedicated to customer satisfaction.

You will also begin the second stage of the MDP which, depending on your ability, may include attending various courses such as Advanced Shift Management (ASM) and Systems Management.

To be promoted to a First Assistant position (effectively the second in charge) you must have completed the second stage of the MDP and all of the associated training courses. You will have displayed the level of maturity and ability needed to take on this additional responsibility. You will have demonstrated you are able to balance maintaining our high standards of Quality, Service and Cleanliness whilst motivating and engaging the crew on your shifts. You will have a proven track record in people development and a strong profitability focus.

Completion of the second stage of the MDP program, the associated courses and the required restaurant experience makes you eligible to apply for a Certificate IV in Retail Management.

First Assistant

As a successful First Assistant you will be expected to consistently demonstrate the ability to evaluate the restaurant's performance, and will develop and implement goals and action plans designed to bring about performance improvements. Viewed as a leader by your peers, you will train and develop future managers in all aspects of the restaurant's systems and performance. You'll complete the third stage of the MDP and attend the Restaurant Leadership Practices course.

Completion of the third stage of the MDP program, the associated courses and the required restaurant experience makes you eligible to apply for a Diploma of Retail Management.

Restaurant Manager

Having demonstrated your ability as a First Assistant, when an opportunity becomes available you may be promoted to Restaurant Manager. You will then be responsible for every aspect of the restaurant's performance. This includes managing all restaurant employees and their development, overseeing restaurant operations, meetings sales and profit targets and business planning.

However, your development does not stop here. As a Restaurant Manager you will complete stage four of the MDP, attend the Business Leadership Course (BLP) and will receive regular formal and informal feedback and training from your Operations Consultant (area manager) or licensee.

Completion of the fourth stage of the MDP program, the associated courses and the required restaurant experience makes you eligible you to apply for an Advanced Diploma of Business Management.
