Macca’s celebrates biggest McHappy Day in Australian history

23 November 2023

Thursday, 23 November 2023: Macca’s customers around the country have raised a record-breaking $6.4 million for this year’s McHappy Day – making this the biggest and most successful McHappy Day in Australian history.

Across the country, Macca’s customers dug deep whilst visiting their local restaurants or placing orders via the MyMacca’s App and McDelivery to purchase a Big Mac, Macca’s Makers, Silly Socks and Helping Hands to support this year’s McHappy Day campaign for Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

Now in its 32nd year, McHappy Day is the largest annual fundraiser for RMHC, raising much needed funds to help seriously ill or injured children and their families stay together and close to the care they need while undergoing surgery or treatment in hospital.

Barbara Ryan, Chief Executive Officer for Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia said, “Thank you, Australia, for this incredible effort! To experience such generosity and support for what we do is truly humbling, and we are so grateful to McDonald’s customers, crew, franchisees, and everyone who came out to support us on McHappy Day. These funds will make an enormous difference to the lives of thousands of families across Australia.

All funds raised from McHappy Day will go towards helping RMHC continue to support families in need through Ronald McDonald Houses, Family Rooms, Family Retreats, Hospitality Carts and Learning Program to support families through and after their child’s challenging hospital journey and ongoing recovery.

Over the past 32 years, McHappy Day has raised over $72 million for Ronald McDonald House Charities.

McDonald’s first launched McHappy Day in Australia in 1991 to help raise essential funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities. There are now 18 Ronald McDonald Houses nationally, with the charity caring for almost 46,000 families every year.

About Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia

Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) is an independent charity that helps seriously ill children and their families.

The cornerstone program of RMHC, the Ronald McDonald House, provides a ‘home away from home’ for families of seriously ill and injured children being treated at nearby hospitals. The Houses keep families close by giving parents and siblings the opportunity to stay together to support their sick loved ones. RMHC currently has 18 Houses throughout Australia accommodating more than 9,600 families annually.

Other Programs include the Ronald McDonald Family Room Program which provides a relaxing haven within hospitals giving families a break from the stress of many hours spent at their child’s bedside, and the Ronald McDonald Learning Program, which currently helps an average of over 1,200 school-aged children on any given week catch up on missed education after treatment and recovery from serious illness or injury. The Learning Program helps students get back on track, build their confidence and makes the transition back to school much easier.

The Ronald McDonald Family Retreat Program provides families with a seriously ill or injured child a week’s free accommodation at one of six Family Retreats across Australia, enabling them to relax, reset and enjoy special moments together. Additionally, the Ronald McDonald Hospitality Carts provide practical support and comfort to families who have a seriously ill child receiving treatment by offering books, activities and entertainment, as well as practical care items, snacks and beverages.
